Overview
Ursuline Academy of Dallas is seeking a skilled, dependable, and collaborative part-time accompanist to support the high school choral music program through rehearsals, performances, festivals, auditions, and special events throughout the academic year. This position works closely with the Music Director and the Performing Arts Department to provide high-quality musical accompaniment, reinforce instructional goals, and support students in their growth as musicians and performers.
General Authority
The Music Accompanist reports to the Director of Music, who reports to the Performing Arts Department Chair.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Serve as piano accompanist for choir classes, rehearsals, concerts, liturgies, festivals, auditions, campus events, and other school performances as scheduled.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of Music to prepare concert literature and support the instructional goals of the vocal music program.
- Play vocal lines and accompaniment parts during rehearsals to assist students with notes, rhythms, diction, phrasing, and entrances.
- Assist with sectionals, solo preparation, and small ensemble coaching as needed.
- Serve as a substitute teacher for music classes when necessary.
- Help prepare students for honor choir auditions, solo and ensemble competitions, recital performances, and contest preparation.
- Demonstrate strong sight-reading skills and adapt accompaniment to match rehearsal pacing and student needs.
- Prepare assigned music in advance and arrive promptly for rehearsals and performances.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of music stands, chairs, and other performance equipment as needed.
- Assure all music materials and equipment are carefully assigned, used safely, and properly stored.
- Attend professional music education events and serve as a student chaperone when needed.
- Support a positive, respectful, and student-centered rehearsal environment.
Position Requirements

- Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience considered.
- Advanced proficiency in piano accompaniment with strong sight-reading ability.
- Strong foundation in music theory, choral rehearsal techniques, and vocal accompaniment.
- Experience accompanying choirs, student ensembles, or school music programs preferred.
- Demonstrated performance knowledge across a variety of musical styles and literature, including both classical and contemporary repertoire.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students and collaborate professionally with faculty, staff, and parents.
- Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills.
- Positive, enthusiastic, flexible, and professional attitude.
- Commitment to ongoing professional growth and participation in music education opportunities.
