Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Pastor of Worship and Care, the Associate Pastor, Director of Congregational Care will pastor and lead the team in regards to the care needs of St. Andrew. This role will support families that are grieving and rejoice along rejoicing families. This position ministers to the mental, physical, emotional and spiritual needs of the Congregation through:
- Visiting persons in hospital and rehab facilities
- Making telephone calls
- Listening, encouraging
- Praying
- Supporting grieving families

Essential Functions
Associate Pastor
- Serve under the direction of the Pastor of Worship and Care and focus on specific ministry areas, such as worship, caring, and education.
- Participates fully with the Pastoral team for the spiritual leadership of the church, including relationships with key stakeholders
- Provide pastoral care and support to members of the congregation.
- Often takes on preaching or teaching responsibilities as needed.
Congregational Care
Prayer requests and hospital visits
- Ensure that all pastor visit information/updates are entered in the church database
- Ensures preparation (quarterly) and updating Pastor on Duty/Pastor On Call
- Communicates information regarding Pastor on Duty schedule to the Administrative Assistant to submit to the Answering Service and update as needed
- Make regular hospital visits and participate in POD “On Call” rotation
- Arrange/provide appropriate training for POD team and the wider staff as needed
Grief Care
- Obtain/update information on deaths and invite to ongoing Grief Care
- Facilitate Grief Care sessions
- Send letters to persons who have experienced loss within the past two years to invite to annual “Handling the Holidays” seminar, All Saints service and the Service of Comfort and Hope
- Oversee the Congregational Care Coordinator in coordinating the volunteers, including assignments and follow up
- Oversee the Congregational Care Coordinator in leading and supporting our CCM team, including monthly meetings, connection with pastoral team and 1:1 meetings to ensure this team is supported.
- Oversee the Congregational Care Coordinator in planning and implementing funerals/memorial services
- Oversee the Congregational Care Support Groups and Wedding Coordinator in the planning of weddings and our different support groups (Grief Care, Divorce Care, Financial Care, Alzheimer’s support group, more as needed by the church community)
- Columbarium, work with the Congregational Care Coordinator to ensure the columbarium is properly cared for, the face plates are correct, and manage the overall audit of this sacred space.
- Serve as backup for the Answering Service when other pastors are on call.
- Serve as a liturgist in our worship services
- Represents the church's vision by supporting its overall mission.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position oversees the Congregational Care team.
Physical Demands
This is mostly a sedentary position with some filing. Events will require more walking and lifting than the typically office requirements.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a ministerial exempt full-time position at 36.5 hours per week. Weekly expectations include consistent presence in staff meetings and on campus, Sunday through Thursday. PTO on Sundays are limited to the number of weeks of vacation (example, 4 weeks of vacation = 4 Sundays).
Travel
Some travel is expected for this role for the purposes of education and conferences.
Required Education and Experience
- Masters degree in Divinity, Worship Ministry, Theology or Music or a related field (or equivalent Pastor’s studies) or currently pursuing degree at approved seminary
- 5 or more years of (relevant) experience
