Summary
The Office of Young Adult & Campus Ministry is seeking a Campus Minister to join the Catholic
Campus Ministry team to serve the Catholic student and faculty population at University of
Houston-Main Campus. This is a full-time position. The Campus Minister will work in
collaboration with the Chaplain/Director of the Newman Center to provide a broad-based ministry
guided by the principles of “Empowered by the Spirit.”
The Catholic Newman Center at UH, is a welcoming and active hub for Catholic students, faculty,
and staff. Located on campus across from the Rec, the center offers a home-like environment
where students can gather for Mass, confession, adoration, retreats, Bible studies, service projects,
and social events.
Since its founding in 1961, the UH Catholic Newman Center has been part of the Archdiocese’s
broader mission to bring a Catholic presence to college campuses. The center is open Monday
through Friday and for Sunday Mass, providing consistent opportunities for spiritual growth,
fellowship, and pastoral care. It plays a vital role in evangelizing the campus and forming young
adults in their faith journey.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in pastoral ministry, theology or related field is required.
- Master’s degree in pastoral ministry, theology or related field is recommended.
- One to three years of experience in campus ministry or ministry with young adults.
- Thorough understanding of Catholic teaching and ability to teach.
- If not already attained, progress toward CCMA/USCCB certification in Campus Ministry will
be a part of this position
- Knowledge of the principles of “Empowered by the Spirit”
- Organizational and management skills are required
