Youth Minister – High School
Purpose This Youth Minister position serves high school youth as a key member of the Faith Formation team, entrusted with leading the
parish’s ministry to youth in grades 9–12. Through dynamic programming, relational ministry, retreats, and discipleship
opportunities, this role seeks to form missionary disciples who are rooted in the Eucharist, connected to the parish community,
and growing in their Catholic faith.
The Youth Minister will foster a culture of hospitality, mercy, and joy, while equipping adult volunteers and youth leaders to
accompany teens in their faith journey. This role involves close collaboration with the Youth Ministry Director to create a
spiritually enriching environment for high school students. This position reports to and is directly supervised by the Youth
Ministry Director.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Youth Ministry Director in planning, organizing, and implementing a comprehensive youth ministry program for
grades 9-12.
- Plan, coordinate, and lead Life Teen Sunday Nights in collaboration with the Core Team.
- Collaborate with the Youth Ministry Director for the weekly Encounter youth nights, creating opportunities for prayer,
formation, and fellowship.
- Assist in organizing and executing retreats, service projects, and special events for the high school programs.
- Recruit, train, and mentor adult Core Team members to serve as small group leaders and provide ongoing formation,
prayer, and support throughout the year.
- Collaborate with parents, equipping them to be the primary faith formators of their teens.
- Communicate regularly with parents and teens through Flocknote, email and social media.
- Collaborate with the Youth Ministry Director and Junior High Youth Minister to provide a unified vision for parish youth
ministry.
- Support Confirmation preparation as needed in partnership with the Youth Ministry Director.
- Attend regular Faith Formation staff meetings and parish events as part of the ministry team.
- Assist other Faith Formation team members in related activities and events.
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong personal faith life and commitment to the teachings of the Church.
- Bachelor’s degree in theology, ministry, education, or related field required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in youth ministry, catechesis, or parish leadership, preferably focused on high school-aged
youth.
- Relational, energetic, and passionate about walking with teens and helping them encounter Christ.
- Must be an effective communicator with good writing skills, demonstrate the ability to speak well in front of groups of
varying size, and effectively utilize digital communication tools.
- Experience in preparing and delivering presentations, as requested.
- Skilled in volunteer recruitment and leadership development.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask, and work well to meet deadlines.
- Proficient with technology with at least intermediate level proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, social media, and
parish software (ParishSoft a plus).
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
Hours & Schedule This is a full-time benefit-eligible position, requiring evening and weekend availability, particularly for Life Teen (Sundays),
Encounter nights, retreats, and parish-wide events. Flexibility is expected during peak program seasons.
