POSITION SUMMARY
For half a century, our Child Life Department at Children’s Health continues to collaborate with the medical staff to support patients and families throughout their medical journey, providing support during procedures, new diagnoses, and promote normalization and positive coping through play.
Children's Medical Center Dallas is a free-standing academic hospital with 496 beds, offering care in over 60 pediatric specialties and featuring a Level I Emergency Room. Supported by a highly collaborative multidisciplinary team, the facility includes eight playrooms and is enriched by team members actively contributing to multiple hospital-wide committees to advance patient care and innovation.
Looking to the future, Children's Health, in partnership with UT Southwestern, is planning a transformative new $5 billion children’s hospital in Dallas. Set to be one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the nation, this landmark project will significantly expand the region's healthcare infrastructure and elevate pediatric care by 2031
RESPONSIBILITIES
Document patient's developmental needs, coping and plan to facilitate mastery in patient medical records and recognize subtle changes in patient psychosocial assessment.
Facilitate coping assessment, individual and group support, procedural and surgical preparation and support, medical play and coordinate and initiate involvement in appropriate community activities.
Prepare siblings for visitation and anticipated events related to treatment and provide sibling support and provide psychosocial support and opportunities for continued coping and normal growth.
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with members of the healthcare team and initiate support to parents/caregivers regarding developmental needs and interventions for their child.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Child Life Intern in accordance with ACLP
EDUCATION
Required: Four-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Preferred: Graduate or professional work or advanced degree; or equivalent experience
