Position Summary:
The Volunteer Coordinator at ChristianWorks plays a vital role in mobilizing community support and engagement across the organization’s ministries. This position is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, training, and retaining volunteers through strategic partnerships and personalized outreach. The coordinator ensures that volunteers are well-prepared, appreciated, and effectively placed to serve in meaningful roles that support the mission of ChristianWorks.
Volunteer Engagement & Placement
- Maintain and update the volunteer database, ensuring accurate records of date range, hours served, roles assigned, and background checks completed.
- Thoughtfully review incoming applications with volunteer questionnaires and initiate follow-up conversations.
- Match volunteers to service opportunities with care, balancing ministry needs with individual availability, skills, and passions.
- Confirm certain one-time or unique tasks with volunteers to ensure participation (ie, meals, youth group service projects, etc.)
- Maintain ongoing communication with volunteers to foster a sense of community and appreciation.
- Send personalized thank-you messages to every individual who serves.
- Design and deliver role-specific training programs to ensure volunteers are equipped for success.
- Tailor training intensity and content based on the nature of each volunteer role.
Ministry Partnership & Program Support
- Meet with ministry leaders (GriefWorks, BecomingMom, AdoptionWorks, CounselingWorks, CampSunrise, and more) to anticipate and plan for volunteer needs.
- Coordinate volunteer assignments and ensure adequate coverage for all events.
- Serve as point person for questions and information for volunteers.
- Provide timely follow-up and feedback to ministry leaders regarding volunteer performance, feedback, or scheduling updates.
Outreach & Recruitment
- Respond promptly and graciously to inquiries from prospective volunteers via phone, email, website, or in person.
- Post and promote current volunteer needs via approved platforms, newsletters, and social media (in coordination with Marketing/Communications.)
Communication & Recognition
- Send welcome notes, thank-you messages, or check-ins to new and returning volunteers.
- Provide updated contact lists or key volunteer insights to the Communications Department for inclusion in newsletters or spotlights.
- Gather volunteer feedback and suggestions to help refine systems, improve experiences, and foster long-term engagement.
- Track notable moments of service that may be highlighted in appreciation of events or stories of impact.
Planning & Internal Collaboration
- Attend internal staff or development meetings to stay aligned on priorities, events, and cross-departmental needs.
- Review and refine the volunteer filtering and placement process based on ongoing experience and feedback.
- Begin preparations for major volunteer events or initiatives, such as seasonal service days or annual appreciation gatherings.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
