ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF NURSERY

Direct Supervisor of: Volunteers and Ministry Child Care Teachers

Work Schedule: Sun-Thurs, Part-Time, approximately 28 hrs per week

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION
The Associate Director of Nursery supports the Director of Early Childhood and the Highland Kids and Students Department in creating a safe, loving environment where young children are spiritually nurtured through age-appropriate activities, biblical teaching, and relational care. The role aims to fully staff and support the Early Childhood ministry with engaged, committed volunteers and ministry partners who embody the life of Christ

- Early Childhood Nursery volunteer and Nursery staff teaching teams are equipped to lead the next generation to become transformed followers of Jesus.
- Shared spaces with the Child Development Center and The Day School team are effectively and appropriately utilized.
- Parents of HP Pres with Early Childhood-aged children are supported and encouraged through the ministry.
- The Highland Kids and Students Ministry is positively impacted.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
People
- Recruit volunteers for all teaching environments
- Develop / Equip / Encourage in partnership with Early Childhood team
- Develop and manage volunteer and Nursery Staff schedules
- Ensure volunteers are up to date on all safety and training requirements
- Serve as a welcoming presence to all families who attend Sunday and midweek ministry gatherings alongside Director of Early Childhood Ministry
- Communicate with parents and support their role as the primary spiritual influence
- Communicate with families and pastors to coordinate children's baptisms
- Engage in intentional contact work with volunteers & families both during and outside of regular programming
Programming
- Manage and coordinate Nursery Staff Team for events and Ministry Child Care opportunities
- Shepherd and coordinate baptism families in their children's baptisms through Baptism Class and Baptism Sunday hosting
- Ensure all nursery classrooms are fully stocked, organized, and prepared with the appropriate supplies and classroom resources for weekly ministry and special events, including VBS, Christmas, Easter, and other seasonal programs.
- Coordinate all Ministry Child Care events and midweek ministry support
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Motivate and empower team
- Manage and coordinate Nursery Staff and volunteers
- Hold team accountable to outcomes and workplace expectations listed on position description, including regular reviews
- Work with HR and immediate supervisor in hiring and offboarding process
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor's degree, preferred
- Experience: 2+ years in Education or Ministry; proven experience in administrative roles
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Microsoft Office; proficient in digital workplace environment
- Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills
- Teaching preschool children by reading, singing, playing, creating, etc.
- Familiar with Biblical studies, child development, safety procedures
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to articulate vision and maintain accountability
- Proficient in organizing details, projects, and data
- Adheres to established systems, standards, and procedures
- Can efficiently manage workflow with willingness to flex when needed
- Love for and experience with children and ability to lead adults
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ABILITIES
- Frequent lifting under 30 lbs
- Frequent bending, stooping, lifting
- Sitting for extended periods
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure
