Job description
Teachers at the Lake Highlands Presbyterian Church (LHPC) Child Development Center (CDC) are responsible for maintaining a safe and enriching classroom environment for children. The teacher will deliver developmentally-appropriate lessons plans based upon the age of the children. The CDC is open from 7:00am - 6:00pm Monday - Friday and serves children aged 8 weeks through 4 years and offers an After School program for Elementary School students. This position would be for a 8:30am-5:30pm shift.
The Toddler Class is for children aged between 1yr to 2yrs old. Teachers are need to comfortable with getting up and down from the floor, carrying children up to 30lbs, and diaper changes. Daily activities include snacks & meals, singing, dancing, playing with toys, Circle Time, Outdoor Play, reading books, and age appropriate art projects.
Essential Job Duties
- Supervise children in classroom setting to ensure a safe environment with the child’s well-being at the forefront
- Plan enriching classroom activities and lesson plans
- Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order in the classroom
- Diaper Changing and introduction to Potty Training
- Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests
- Prepare and implement lesson plans that include daily, weekly, and monthly themes and activities
- Decorate the classroom with appropriate materials, including bulletin boards, children’s art work, and pictures to stimulate interest and a good learning environment
- Maintain good communication with parents and other staff members on a daily basis
- Attend monthly team meetings and trainings, including 24 hours of continuing education.
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to use computers, tablets, laptops, or other similar devices with minimal or no assistance
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to think creatively with teaching methods
- Knowledge of safe and appropriate child care behaviors
- Licensed Child Care Experience REQUIRED
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent Required
- CDA Preferred
