Job Specific Working Conditions:
The Northeast Texas Young Life Region is prayerfully seeking a Regional Capernaum Coordinator. This role resources and supports current active ministry in 12 local areas with 11 Capernaum area staff, while also casting vision and planting ministry to reach more teens with disabilities in new and innovative ways. Our ideal candidate will have the desire and ability to support areas with open ministries to grow in health and depth, while also pursuing new growth through strategic plans and initiatives. This person will lead the region to further growth by including people with disabilities in leadership, encouraging new Capernaum clubs, launching inclusion ministries, guiding Leadership Experience and intentionally reaching students with disabilities in all open areas. The right candidate will give vision for onboarding and supporting individuals with disabilities to serve on Young Life staff and as Young Life leaders. This person loves the Lord and has a growing spiritual life outside of the ministry. Must have a high capacity to operate with minimal daily supervision and must be a highly motivated self-starter, vision caster, and implementer of that vision. This position is a key member of the Regional team, may be FT or PT depending on the experience and calling of the candidate. and may reside anywhere within the region (which includes Dallas, TX).
Essential Duties:
Spiritual Development
- Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life including time for solitude, retreat, reflection, prayer and a sincere commitment to understanding God’s Word.
- Seek and maintain relationships and disciplines, in the context of active participation in a church community.
Mission Development
- Work in partnership with regional team to lead Capernaum in the region and vision for reaching “every kid” within the region as part of regional & area strategic plans
- Communicate regularly with regional director and area directors who oversee Capernaum ministries and partner with them to recruit, train and support Capernaum staff at the area level.
- Work with area directors to encourage new ministry across all life-stage ministries.
- Serve on the Regional Leadership Team as a integral part of the team for Capernaum and the region as a whole
- Serve as a volunteer with local Capernaum ministry
- Serve on camp assignments as directed by the regional director in partnership with the divisional coordinator
Leadership Development of staff and volunteers
- Communicate regularly with Capernaum staff and volunteer team leaders for individual support, problem solving, planning, encouragement, vision, and goals.
- Offer disability expertise to staff and volunteers while also providing opportunities for learning around disability.
- Provide initial training tools to Capernaum start-up areas.
- Plan and lead regular Capernaum calls with area staff and team leaders.
- Foster community among Capernaum staff and volunteer team leaders.
- Encourage collaboration with the greater mission of Young Life.
- Visit areas with Capernaum (once/year is recommended)
- Launch and support Leadership Experience annually in partnership with Regional Director to equip people with disabilities in leadership within your region
- Develop leadership pipelines both for staff and volunteers, including people with and without disabilities
Capernaum Development
- Commitment to uphold the vision and culture set by global Capernaum
- Partner with divisional coordinator on division-wide tasks and initiatives, such as planning divisional trainings, etc.
- Regularly communicate with the divisional coordinator.
- Participate in regular team calls led by the divisional coordinator.
Ministry Support
- Ensure the administrative requirements are handled with excellence and in a timely manner.
- Ensure areas understand and accurately report ministry information in YL Connect.
- Maintain Capernaum contacts with interest, start-up and active ministry information for the region.
- Ensure areas understand and comply with volunteer management procedures concerning Capernaum volunteer leaders, Committee, adult helpers, and buddies.
- Ensure areas understand and comply with ministry specific policies.
- Encourage and support healthy ministry in regards to contact work, club and campaigners in areas.
- Encourage and support healthy camping progressions for each area, including summer, school season, adventure, discipleship, day camp, work crew, and summer staff for Capernaum campers and peer buddies. Develop funding opportunities and financial resources for campership.
Resource Development
- Raise personal support in an amount determined with the regional director.
- Use mission financial tools to ensure all expenses are within the budget.
- Invite potential donors for the Capernaum ministry to give and develop ministry across the region
- Learn and implement Relationship Centered Engagement (RCE).
- Ensure that all Young Life financial policies and procedures are implemented.
Personal development
- Attend regional staff times and retreats, as determined with the regional director.
- Pursue continuing education or training seminars to enhance professional skills.
- Pursue learning opportunities around disability culture and trends.
- Participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or enrichment.
- Participate in required missionwide training.
Qualifications Required For the Job:
- Commitment to a growing relationship with Christ.
- Ability to clearly communicate Young Life’s mission and the vision for Capernaum.
- Proven relational skills with both adolescents and adults.
- Past or current involvement in local or regional Capernaum ministry.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proven leadership skills.
- Ability to travel as the job requires.
Education:
- College degree preferred.
