Job Overview
The Church Organist is responsible for providing organ music for the church's worship services, including Sunday morning services and occasional afternoon or special services. The Organist works in close collaboration with the Minister of Music, choirs, and other musicians participating in worship, offering musical support as directed. Serving as a positive and professional member of the church staff, the Organist helps create a meaningful and spirit-filled worship experience through music while supporting and advancing the vision and mission of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide organ music for the 11:00a worship service
- Arrive punctually for worship services, no later than 15 minutes prior to the start of service
- Remain knowledgeable of current, classic, and new musical selections appropriate for Sunday worship services.
- Teach, direct, and accompany church choirs as assigned.
- Provide musical accompaniment for weekly choir rehearsals and additional programs, including rehearsals for plays, concerts, and performances held at the church or at outside venues.
- Provide organ music for special services as needed, including but not limited to Easter, Christmas, and members' funerals.
- Travel with Pastor and accompany Galilee Missionary Baptist Church choirs for engagements both in-town and out-of-town, as requested.
Qualifications
- A committed Christian who is saved and actively growing in Christ.
- Faithful in stewardship, including regular tithing.
- Demonstrated training, skill, and proficiency in organ performance.
- Maintains high standards of Christian character, integrity, and conduct.
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to the church's mission, vision, and core values.
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative and apply creativity in musical leadership.
- Able to work effectively and collaboratively with the pastor, staff, musicians, and volunteers as a team player.
- Demonstrates the ability to relate to and work well with both children and adults.
- Willing to serve in accordance with church policies, procedures, and leadership direction.
Pay: From $275.00 per week
