The Church Organist / Pianist acts to conduct successfully the church music program by providing professional, technical, and managerial expertise in the following areas:
Job Description/Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and play organ/piano music appropriate to each service of worship, i.e., prelude, interlude, offertory, responses and postlude. Accompany the choir or soloists/special musicians, typically on the piano, and the congregation's singing of hymns and service music on the organ.
- Rehearse sufficiently for optimum performance.
- Play at regular and special services: Sundays (10:30AM.); Ash Wednesday; Maundy Thursday; Good Friday (most evening special services at 7:00 P.M.); Christmas Eve (6:00 P.M. and 11:00 P.M.); any others as scheduled, and as available).
- Attend choir rehearsalsWednesdays, as scheduled, and Sunday morning services, 10:30 A.M.
5. Play appropriate music for weddings and funerals if asked and available. * Compensation for these events usually provided as an honorarium from the families.
6. Through the Pastor and Music Director, arrange for a substitute when unable to be present.
7. Ability to take direction and work as a team member. Skill of improvisation and flexibility is desirable.
