AV Technician – Methodist Church
Job Description
Position Overview
The AV Technician supports the worship, ministry, and community life of the church by managing all audio, video, lighting, and livestream technology. This role ensures that every service and event is delivered with clarity, excellence, and reverence, reflecting the values and traditions of the Methodist Church. The technician works closely with pastors, musicians, ministry leaders, and volunteers to create a seamless worship experience.
Key Responsibilities
1. Worship Service Support
- Operate audio consoles, microphones, monitors, and in-ear systems during Sunday worship and special services.
- Manage video projection, slides, scripture displays, and multimedia presentations.
- Oversee livestream setup and broadcast (YouTube, Facebook, or church platform).
- Ensure all recordings (audio/video) are captured, saved, and archived properly.
- Conduct pre-service sound checks with musicians, clergy, and liturgists.
2. Technical System Management
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair AV equipment including soundboards, cameras, projectors, lighting systems, and computers.
- Update software for livestreaming, presentation, and audio systems.
- Monitor inventory of cables, batteries, microphones, and related supplies.
- Recommend equipment upgrades and improvements to enhance worship quality.
3. Volunteer Coordination & Training
- Recruit, train, and support AV volunteers for worship services and events.
- Create simple, clear operating guides for volunteers.
- Provide leadership during services to ensure smooth transitions and technical consistency.
4. Event Support
- Provide AV setup and operation for church events such as funerals, weddings, Bible studies, choir rehearsals, and community gatherings.
- Coordinate with event organizers to understand technical needs and ensure readiness.
- Set up portable sound systems for outdoor or off-site events when needed.
5. Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with the Pastor, Worship Leader, Music Director, and administrative staff.
- Attend worship planning meetings as needed.
- Communicate technical needs, challenges, and improvements clearly and proactively.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with live sound mixing in a worship or performance environment.
- Familiarity with digital soundboards (e.g., Behringer X32, Allen & Heath, Yamaha).
- Knowledge of livestreaming platforms and software (OBS, vMix, BoxCast, etc.).
- Ability to operate cameras, switchers, projectors, and lighting systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, live-production environment.
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and navigate stage/booth areas safely.
- Excellent communication skills and a calm, supportive presence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a church or nonprofit setting.
- Understanding of Methodist worship traditions and liturgical flow.
- Basic video editing skills for sermon uploads or recap videos.
- Ability to read music or follow a worship set list (helpful but not required).

Work Schedule
- Sunday mornings (required).
- Weeknight rehearsals as needed.
- Special services: Christmas, Easter, funerals, weddings, revivals, and church-wide events.
- Occasional meetings or training sessions.
Reports To
- SPPRC, Pastor and Lead Musician.
- Works collaboratively with Music Ministry, Administrative Staff, and Volunteer Teams.
