The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders is seeking a chaplain for the Dallas area clinics. The chaplain is a member of the health ministry team who provides pastoral needs to patients, family members and caregivers. The chaplain through professional training and certification, assists patients to understand more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being. From the patient's life experience, the chaplain may offer prayer or reflection.
Essential Functions of the Chaplain position:
A. Carries out the goals of the health ministry’s department
B. Organizes worship services in creative and ecumenical ways
C. Offers religious and spiritual guidance to patients/family members/caregivers
D. Regularly (as determined by goals and objectives) visits with all patients/family members/caregivers while giving priority to those in greatest need
E. Is available to serve the families of deceased patients as required by follow-up guidance
F. Establishes positive working relationships with all members of the health team as well as with the volunteers
G. Keeps records as required
H. Offers in-service programs regularly to staff
EDUCATION: 1. A bachelor's degree is preferred. 2. The chaplain should have completed a curriculum of theological classes and displays skills and competencies in pastoral care.
EXPERIENCE: Training
1. Certification by an appropriate clinical pastoral agency as applicable
2. One year of pastoral experience
3. One year of experience in counseling patients-Oncology experience preferred.
4. Ability to lead and coordinate prayer
5. Ability to facilitate group process
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Solid standing in the religious community
2. Good physical and emotional health
3. Ability and stamina to minister to patients/family members/caregivers with varying physical and mental dysfunctions
4. Flexibility in work hours
5. Ability and desire to work with those of varying faith backgrounds
6. Experience in working as part of a team; good communication skills
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: From $350.00 per week
Expected hours: No less than 20 per week
